2:27pm- Wes Kirkland just hit a three to put his team up four. Kevin Jones then missed a pull-up jumper on teh other end from about 15 feet. Mt Vernon scored on teh rebound, then senior forward Will Kirkland scored for Roman Catholic. A lot of action these past few minutes!
2:28pm- Vaughn Allen just hit two shots at the line for Mt. Vernon, cutting the lead to two. Jordan Lessane, a junior guard for the Knights, then stole the ball and hit an uncontested layup, tying the game at 54 a piece with 38.0 to go in the quarter.
2:30pm- Mt. Vernon is full-court pressing right now. Roman Catholic was just called for an offensive foul after breaking the press.
2:31pm- Lessane just kicked it out to Jones at the three point line. He took a few dribbled and spotted up from around 17 feet for a jumper, that went through, giving Mt. Vernon the lead.
2:32pm- Roman Catholic couldn't get off a shot before the buzzer, so they will be down two entering the final quarter of play.
2:33pm- Wayns drove and dished to start the quarter, but his teammat couldn't get a handle on the ball down low.
2:35pm- Jones just showed off his speed, knocking the ball away from behind, which then led to two Nt. Vernon free thrwos, as the re-gained the lead, 58-57.
2:37pm- Impressive play from Jones. He cut down the baseline, got a pass and took a three. He missed, but followed his shot and got the board. His second attempt was blocked. He stuck with it, picked the ball up and hit a layup. Nice effort from the West Virginia-bound senior.
2:38pm- Wayns converted on an and-one to tie it up, then freshman forward Aaron Brown scored for Roman Catholic, as they re-took the lead.
2:39pm- Jabarie Hinds scored to tie it back up, this time at 62 each.
2:40pm- Hinds just took it to the hoop, scored, and drew the foul. He hit the and-one shot, giving his team a three-point cushion.
2:41pm- Courtney Stanley was fouled by Jabarie Hinds, as he took a layup. It went through, and then he knocked down the free throw, evening the game at 65. There is 3:48 to go in regulation.
2:43pm- After a Stanley steal, Brookins got the ball and was foueld while shooting. He hit one of two, putting Roman Catholic up 66-65.
2:46pm- Mt. Vernon just drained two free throws to go up 67-66. Sherrod Wright just score, bumping the lead up to three. Aaron Brown then scored at the other end. The lead is quickly back to one. Well, now its three again. Kevin Jones just scored off a gorgeous spin move and one-handed shot. With that, the Knights lead 71-68 with only 1:32 remaining. This is a great game.
2:48pm- Wayns just hit a three pointer to tie it up.
2:49pm- Allen just hit two free throws for Mt. Vernon. He then fouled Will Kirkland at the other end with 57.2 left. The senior hit both. All tied up.
2:51pm- Mt. Vernon is holding for the last shot.
2:52pm- Hinds drove the ball and got fouled on his shot with 3.6 left. It was a blocking call. The freshman will step to the charity stripe with the game on the line.
2:53pm- Hinds knocked down the first. His second shot rimmed out.
2:55pm- Roman Catholic grabbed the lose ball, and has it out-of-bounds with 1.2 left after a timeout.
2:56pm- Wes Kirkland's in-bounds pass sailed out-of-bounds off the hands of a teammate. There is just 0.3 left.
2:57pm- Mt. Vernon in-bounded the ball to senior guard Ketema Brooks, and the game ended with a 74-73 win for Mt. Vernon.
3:10pm- Maalik Wayns won MVP for Roman Catholic, while Kevin Jones won the award for Mt. Vernon. Wayns had 26 points. Jones had 27 points and 12 boards. Sherrod Wright scored 22 for Mt. Vernon as well.

The Hermits of St. Augustine (NJ) are squaring off against The Hun School (NJ). The Raiders of Hun are led by top-notch senior forward Lance Goulboure. The Hermits have a solid group of players, including freshman forward Charlie Monaghan and freshman guard Isaiah Morton.
12:07pm- St. Augustine has jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead, after almost three minutes of play.
12:08pm- Goulbourne just knocked down a trey.
12:10pm- Hun's senior guard Doug Davis just drained a three to put the Raiders on top 8-6.
12:11pm- Monaghan just had a nice block down low.
12:13pm- Senior big man Egheosa Edomwonyi has scored the last four points for Hun, who leads 12-8 with about 2:00 left in the first quarter.
12:14pm- The two teams just traded three-pointers. Right now, Monaghan is guarding Goulbourne is man-to-man D.

Hello, it's Alex Schwartz once again. Today I'm at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey for the Primetime Shootout. The day is about to get underway, with Timber Creek (NJ) and Academy of New Church (PA). Timber Crrek is led by senior Tyler Hines, while ANC is led by senior Sam Givens and his younger brother, junior Shannon Givens. ANC is the only team to beat St. Benedict's (NJ) thus far.
10:32am- A three-ball from Timber Creek has cut the lead to 4-3 with just over 5:30 to go in the first quarter
10:33am- Four-point play from Timber Creek. It's 7-4 with about 5:00 left in the first quarter.
10:34am- Sam Givens missed two at the line. Timber Creek scored a bucket at the other end. Sam Givens then came back with a deuce of his own. Timber Creek leads 9-7.
10:38am- Yet another three from Timber Creek, which is followed by a basket from the Lions of ANC. It's 12-11 in favor of Timber Creek.

11:43am- Montez Blair has not done much this half, and Marquise Smith has picked up the slack, scoring a ton of points.

11:45am- Smith scored on a layup to end the contest. ANC wins by a final of 72-58.
12:01pm- Junior guard Collin Johnson was the MVP for Timber Creek, with 14 points. Meanwhile, Larry Loughery was the MVP for ANC with 19 points. Sam Givens dropped 20, and Shannon scored 13. Marquise Smith led Timber Creek is points with 19. Junior Montez Blair scored 16.

Live Blog- St. Patrick's vs. St. Benedict's
St. Patrick's and St. Benedict's are currently playing in a showdown of two of the best teams in the nation, and it is a battle power in New Jersey. I'll fill you in on what's been going on.
9:46pm- St. Patrick's has taken a 14-13 lead into the break after the first quarter.
9:47pm- St. Pat's junior Dexter Strickland just ran down a pass and put home a fast break layup. Samardo Samuels followed that up with a pretty slam dunk.
9:49pm- Gorgeous play by the Gray Bees of St. Benedict's. Tamir Jackson lobbed the ball over the arm of an outstretched St. Pat's defender into the hands of Tristan Thompson, who jammed it home. It was a spectacular alley-oop that brought on applause from teh crowd. Thompson is a sophomore forward, and Jackson is a junior guard.
9:51pm- After a three-pointer from junior Dexter Strickland, the celtics from St. Patrick's have cut the lead down to one, 20-19.
9:52pm- Gray Bees freshman Myck Kabongo just went 2/2 from the line in a one-and-one. This kid is someone to keep an eye on. It's 22-19 with 4:24 to go in the first half.

10:00pm- Echenique just showed off a pretty low post move. He got the defenders in the air, turned, and dunked it through. That put the Gray Bees up 28-23.
10:02pm- Samardo Samuels is an absolute beast on the glass. He grabbed an offensive board, put it up, missed, and grabbed his own rebound. As he was going out of bounds, he threw it back out to teh top of the key to a teammate to restart the play for the Gray Bees. Samuels should be a monster at Louisville next year.

10:16pm- Here isa few of my first half observations for you. Kevin Boyle, Jr. of St. Pat's has a great handle and is solid passing the rock. Clearly he isn't a starter becasue he is teh coach's son. Boyle can play ball. Quintrell Thomas has been pretty quiet for the Celtics. Dexter Strickland has put his great stroke on display in this prime-time matchup. Meanwhile, for the Gray Bees, Greg Echenique has been outstanding. The junior is grabbing rebounds, scoring, and showing some wonderful moves. As well, the big man can hit his free throws, which is a terrific attribute. Samardo Samuels is also having a solid game. He is scoring despite being double-teamed at times. Tristan Thompson has shown off his athleticism and overall ability. Tamir Jackson has played steady all-around for the Gray Bees. The second half is about to get underway. Again, it's 28-26 in favor of St. Benedict's.

10:31pm- Just as it seemed the Gray Bees were starting to run away with teh game, up 40-29, the Celtics began a comeback. Freshman phenom Michael Ghilchrist had a bucket and converted on teh and-one. That was followed up by a St. Benedict's bucket, after which Jermel Jenkins scored, cutting the lead back to eight. Then Kabongo got fouled and agin hit his two free throws. Thus, the score stands at 44-34 St. Benedict's with 1:46 left in the third quarter. This game is far from over.

This is what it's all about . . . game on the line in a big-time rivalry on a big-time stage. It's a chance for the big-time players to step their game and bring home a big-time W. Hey . . . this is big-time high school hoops!!

Tyshawn Taylor- Senior Star
I got to speak with St. Anthony's senior Tyshawn Taylor. The 6-4 guard had a solid game for the Friars. Tyshawn told me that the team compensated for not having Dominic Cheek by running, running, and running some more. Clearly it worked, as the boys from St. Anthony's had a very impressive victory. In addition, Tyshawn said that it was the team's fast-paced up-and-down game that led to them neutralizing 7-4 Jakub Kusmieruk, who had a tough game. I discussed what being #1 in the nation and being a part of St. Anthony's means to Tyshawn. He told me that being number one and being on a great team was a big reason of why he came to St. Anthony's. As well, Taylor, who is headed to Marquette next year, told me that part of what went into his college decision was the chance to play early. Tyshawn liked that he would be able to log minuts for the Golden Eagles as a freshman, and also that he would be able to play in the Big East. Tyshawn Taylor is a player to watch down the road, as is his current squad, the St. Anthony's Friars.
Live Blog- Oak Hill vs. Piscataway
Oak Hill Academy (VA) is facing off against Piscataway (NJ) right now. I'll catch you up on the action.
7:56pm- Oak Hill was up 20-7 after the first quarter, led by senior guard Brandon and junior big man Keith Gallon.
7:59pm- Piscataway junior guard Thomas Bennett just went baseline and made a beautiful pass to junior Aaron Hush who hit a jumper.
8:00pm- Aaron Hush grabbed an offensive rebound, put in in, and got fouled. He missed the and-one.
8:01pm- With 4:52 to go in the first half, Oak Hill leads 26-14, after a Piscatawy put-back off an offensive rebound from a missed free throw. It was Aaron Hush who put that one in. He doen not seem at all indimidated by the imposing squad from Oak Hill.
8:03pm- Piscataway will not let Oak Hill run away with this game, as they are playing strong D, and getting to the hoop on offense. In addition, they have tired out "Tiny" Gallon, who is not moving around much under the hoop on defense. Coming back in after a timeout, Gallon is getting a breather, and Jennings is back on the court.
8:06pm- WOW!! Hush just swatted Oak Hill junior Glenn Bryant under the hoop. Big play. He couldn't finish on the other end, though.
8:08pm- Gallon has re-entered the game. Jennings is showing some great moves out here. Piscataeway is keeping it close though, as it's 32-14, after a beautiful no-look pass from Brandon Jennings to forward Dan Jennings for a dunk.
8:10pm- It's 32-16 after two free throws from Hush. Oak Hill has nine fouls, while the Chiefs of Piscataway have just three.
8:11pm- B. Jennings just made a beauty of a pass to sophomore forward Bryon Allen, who was unable to finish down low as the buzzer sounded ending the first half. It's 34-16 after one half.
8:12pm- Brandon Jennings has show great abilities as a floor leader on the Oak Hill side, while Aaron Hush is playing spectacularly for Piscataway.
8:30pm- B. Jennings just stole the ball at about the three-point line, went the length of the court, and drew a foul. Brandon is a special talent. He did seem to slow down as he got closer to the hoop, rather than continuing at full speed for the easy finger-roll or dunk. Instead, he went up for an underhanded layup around four feet inside the free throw line. Oak Hill is starting to run away with the game, as it's 45-20, and the players seem to be letting up a bit.
8:34: Gallon still seems to be moving a bit slowly, though he did just get down the court and hit close-up shot on a pass from Brandon Jennings.
8:37pm- B. Jennings just showed his range with three-pointers on back-to-back posessions. It's now 55-23 with 35 seconds to go in the third quarter.
8:40pm- It's 58-23 after three quarters. Oak Hill has officially taken over this contest.
8:47pm- Piscataway can't buy a bucket at this point . . . the shots just aren't falling anymore. Brandon Jennings just received an outlet pass and went in for a dunk. He has been the most impressive player on the court in this game.
8:50pm- B. Jennings just came out, probably for good, with about 5:00 to go. He played absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to see him in action for Arizona next year. If Chase Budinger and Jerryd Bayless stay in school, the Wildcats will be outstanding.
8:56pm- Glenn Bryant just stole the ball at about midcourt and went to the hoop and got way up for a beautiful jam. The next time down the court, sophomore swingman Pe'Shon Howard made a beautiful no-look pass. Oak Hill is truly an incredible team.
9:41pm- Oak Hill ended up winning 81-39. Dan Jennings was the MVP for Oak Hill, and Omar Smith won MVP for Piscataway.

7:59pm- Piscataway junior guard Thomas Bennett just went baseline and made a beautiful pass to junior Aaron Hush who hit a jumper.
8:00pm- Aaron Hush grabbed an offensive rebound, put in in, and got fouled. He missed the and-one.
8:01pm- With 4:52 to go in the first half, Oak Hill leads 26-14, after a Piscatawy put-back off an offensive rebound from a missed free throw. It was Aaron Hush who put that one in. He doen not seem at all indimidated by the imposing squad from Oak Hill.
8:03pm- Piscataway will not let Oak Hill run away with this game, as they are playing strong D, and getting to the hoop on offense. In addition, they have tired out "Tiny" Gallon, who is not moving around much under the hoop on defense. Coming back in after a timeout, Gallon is getting a breather, and Jennings is back on the court.
8:06pm- WOW!! Hush just swatted Oak Hill junior Glenn Bryant under the hoop. Big play. He couldn't finish on the other end, though.
8:08pm- Gallon has re-entered the game. Jennings is showing some great moves out here. Piscataeway is keeping it close though, as it's 32-14, after a beautiful no-look pass from Brandon Jennings to forward Dan Jennings for a dunk.
8:10pm- It's 32-16 after two free throws from Hush. Oak Hill has nine fouls, while the Chiefs of Piscataway have just three.
8:11pm- B. Jennings just made a beauty of a pass to sophomore forward Bryon Allen, who was unable to finish down low as the buzzer sounded ending the first half. It's 34-16 after one half.
8:12pm- Brandon Jennings has show great abilities as a floor leader on the Oak Hill side, while Aaron Hush is playing spectacularly for Piscataway.
8:30pm- B. Jennings just stole the ball at about the three-point line, went the length of the court, and drew a foul. Brandon is a special talent. He did seem to slow down as he got closer to the hoop, rather than continuing at full speed for the easy finger-roll or dunk. Instead, he went up for an underhanded layup around four feet inside the free throw line. Oak Hill is starting to run away with the game, as it's 45-20, and the players seem to be letting up a bit.
8:34: Gallon still seems to be moving a bit slowly, though he did just get down the court and hit close-up shot on a pass from Brandon Jennings.
8:37pm- B. Jennings just showed his range with three-pointers on back-to-back posessions. It's now 55-23 with 35 seconds to go in the third quarter.
8:40pm- It's 58-23 after three quarters. Oak Hill has officially taken over this contest.
8:47pm- Piscataway can't buy a bucket at this point . . . the shots just aren't falling anymore. Brandon Jennings just received an outlet pass and went in for a dunk. He has been the most impressive player on the court in this game.
8:50pm- B. Jennings just came out, probably for good, with about 5:00 to go. He played absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to see him in action for Arizona next year. If Chase Budinger and Jerryd Bayless stay in school, the Wildcats will be outstanding.
8:56pm- Glenn Bryant just stole the ball at about midcourt and went to the hoop and got way up for a beautiful jam. The next time down the court, sophomore swingman Pe'Shon Howard made a beautiful no-look pass. Oak Hill is truly an incredible team.
9:41pm- Oak Hill ended up winning 81-39. Dan Jennings was the MVP for Oak Hill, and Omar Smith won MVP for Piscataway.
9:42pm- I spoke with Keith Gallon of Oak Hill, as well as Oak Hill head coach Steve Smith. In addition, I talked with Omar Smith of Piscataway. I'll post these interviews in the near future.
Primetime Shootout Live Blog- St. Anthony vs. John Carroll
Hello, it's Alex Schwartz, and I'll be running a live blog from the Primetime Shootout at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on the Rutgers campus. I'll be starting it off with the St. Anthony (NJ) vs. John Carroll (MD) game. St. Anthony (18-0) is led by Mike Rosario, one of the the top seniors in New Jersey. St. Anthony's junior Dominic Cheek is not in the starting lineup for the Friars. John Carroll (18-8) boasts a talented lineup, which includes 7-4 center, Jakub Kusmieruk.
6:00pm- John Carroll just called a timeout, with 3:02 to go in the first quarter. St. Anthony is up 12-0, and John Carroll is off to a really rocky start. Their shots are off, and they can't stop St. Anthony on the other end of the floor.
6:02pm- I just learned that the reason Dominic Cheek is not playing is that he is sick. If I hear anything more, specifically about his status, I'll be sure to let you know.
6:03pm- John Carroll just hit their first bucket, a three-pointer from junior guard Erick Smith, putting the score at 19-3. St. Anthony is showing why they are regarded as the best team in the nation.
6:05pm- Another three from John Carroll, this one from junior guard Ryan McQuaid. The shots are starting to fall for the Patriots. We'll see if they can make it into a close game.
6:06pm- The first quarter just ended, with St. Anthony ahead 21-6.
6:12pm- St. Anthony's is playing up to their #1 ranking, as they lead John Carroll by a score of 37-12. Mike Rosario is lighting it up out here. This kid can play.
6:19pm- Update: 40-14 St. Anthony with just under three minutes to go in the first half.
6:22pm- St. Anthony just forced a turnover on the second straight John Carroll posession. The Friars' defense is outstanding tonight.
6:23pm- Alberto Eastwick grabbed a loose ball and hit a buzzer beater from about 18-feet, to put St. Anthony up 50-16 going into the half. This has been an extremely impressive first half for the Friars on both ends of the court.
6:35pm- Carroll came out strong for the second half, as Isaiah Philmore blocked St. Anthony first shot attempt and then grabbed the ball. The Patriots were unable to convert at the other end, though, as Philmore was called for a charge.
6:37pm- Mike Rosario . . . WOW! The senior just dribbled three-quarters of the court, got to the hoop, had to adjust his shot in the air for the layup, and still knocked it in off the glass. Next time down the court, he got fouled hard going up for a layup and went 1/2 from the line.
6:38pm- McQuaid just hit another three for Carroll. The score is now 53-19 in favor of the Friars with 5:49 left in the third quarter.
6:39pm- Rosario just went 2/2 at the line. It's 55-19.
6:40pm- Kusmieruk just scored for the Patriots. He is absolutely huge. Not only is he tall, but he has a good body structure. Kusmieruk is not wiry at all.
6:53pm- It's 63-23 after three quarters.
7:09pm- St. Anthony is continuing to dominate, even with their backups in. This team is outstanding.
7:10pm- Final score: 71-38.
7:31pm- Mike Rosario won MVP of the game with his 23 points.
7:32pm- I spoke with Tyshawn Taylor of St. Anthony after the game, and I'll put up a synopsis of that later tonight. He did mention that Dominic Cheek was most likely going to resume practice on Monday and play on Tuesday.
